Editing Dominion Breaker

The '''Dominion Breaker''' or '''Sae'kes Taelien''' (often just '''Sae'kes''') is a powerful dominion marked sword in the possession of [[Taelien Salaris]]. The name Sae'kes Taelien is from the Liadran language and roughly translates to 'sword that gives destruction to all things'. It is not commonly known that the Sae'kes Taelien and the Dominion Breaker are the same sword.

The Sae'kes is a symbol of the [[Tae'os Pantheon]], as it was wielded by [[Aendaryn]], the god of swords, and is as such holy to Tae'os followers like the [[Paladins of Tae'os]].

Its scabbard uses immensely powerful protection sorcery to restrain the sword's annihilation aura.

== Appearance ==

The sword had a winged crossguard, seven runes (for each god of the [[Tae'os Pantheon]]) and two gems (one connected to the [[Travel essence|Dominion of Travel]] and the other to the [[Acuity essence|Dominion of Insight]]). 

== Abilities ==

*Annihilation Aura (always active): Activating the sword's seven runes compresses the aura, making it more potent.
*Spell Breaker: the ability to detonate spells, artifacts and enchantments. Detonating even weak spells causes great destruction with varying types of damage depending on the essence type of the destroyed spell. When Taelien destroys enchanted items with this technique a little essence from the item goes to him, empowering him.
*Essence/Mana Breaker: causes essence within the body of anyone cut with the Sae'kes to explode, which could then potentially cause a chain reaction of essence resulting in an infinitely spreading explosion.
*Dominion Breaker: This technique is sealed away with part of its incantation lost forever.

The sword is powered by the [[Sae essence|Sae Dominion]]. 

== In [[War of Broken Mirrors]] ==

After being badly injured in a fight against [[Vaelien]], Aendaryn, the former wielder of the sword, told [[Eratar]] to take care of Aendaryn's son, Taelien, and to give him the Sae'kes when Taelien was ready. Eratar in turn asked some [[Rethri]] friends of his to keep Taelien safe for him and gave them the Sae'kes. Taelien grew up being told that the Sae'kes was his birthright, but without any information about why.

When he was little and not yet allowed to use the sword, he took it anyway while his adoptive parents were sleeping, drew it and destroyed their house on accident due to the swords annihilation aura. In later years he trained to activate as many runes of the sword as he could to compress that aura and as such have better control over the sword. That training helped strengthen the dominion connections in his body. In a fight against [[The Wandering War]] in [[Stealing Sorcery]], he realizes that he can switch the hand with which he holds the sword, first charging some of the runes with one hand, then some with the other, allowing him to activate all seven runes.

Taelien uses [[Metal essence|metal sorcery]] to lock the sword in its scabbard, so that no one except him (or someone else with metal sorcery) can draw it.

Every time that Taelien uses the Sae'kes it leaks some annihilation essence into his body, giving him an aura that annihilates everything around him and a supply of annihilation essence that he can use. The blade's aura does not hurt him despite cutting almost everything else.

That causes Eratar to think that Taelien is the sword's spirit or that they are otherwise connected, which he tells Taelien at the end of [[Defying Destiny]].

== In [[The Lost Edge]] ==

The version of the Dominion Breaker found by [[Lien]] does not have the typical winged-crossguard sae'kes appearance, instead having jagged branching points. The gems in its handle had been removed as part of Aendaryn's effeorts to modify the sword. By imbuing a bit of [[spirit essence]] into the sword and twisting the pommel, Edge was able to transform the sword into different forms for different combat styles. These include:
*'''Soulsever''', which turned the greatsword into a longsword. 
*'''Somniasever''', which turned the greatsword into a curved, single-edged sword. 
When using Somniasever, Lien was also able to borrow power from the [[dreams essence|dream]] aspect of the sword and the [[Nightmare Lien|version of himself tied to it]].
